Track your debts and simplify them

What is a debt?

A debt is an amount someone owes a person in the context of an account book.

whooweswho.net allows you to easily track all your debts, in different account books, in different currencies if need be.

There are debts induced by expenses sheets and others that have been entered manually.

whooweswho.net can simplify all the debts of an account book. Thus, when you want to settle accounts, you get the optimal set of transactions between people.

How it works?

Synthesis of your debts with your friends All your personal debts are synthesized in one place.

Everytime an expense is entered in a sheet, debts induced by this sheet are re-computed.

Enter a debt with a friend You can enter a debt directly.

If you already created an expenses sheet in a shared account book, you will be able to enter debts in that account book.

The other person involved in the debt will also see this debt if she/he had been invited to join the account book (can be done anytime).

Otherwise, the debt is registered in your personal account book.

Nobody can see it but you.

Debts can be locked/checked.

Mark a debt as paid

Lock an expenses sheet When you want to settle accounts, you can lock an expenses sheet so that people cannot enter new expenses anymore and modify the induced debts.

Validate the reimbursement of debt You can also directly mark a debt as paid. The site will ask if the it can lock the expenses sheet.

Once an expenses sheet is locked, you know the debts won't change and can mark them whenever you want.

Settled expenses sheet When all the debts induced by an expenses sheet have been paid, the sheet is marked as "settled".

An expenses sheet has 3 states: "open" when everybody can enter expenses, "to settle" when someone paid one debt or locked the sheet manually and "settled" when all the debts have been paid.

When an expenses sheet becomes "settled", it will disappear from the list of current sheet and be archived.

Inside an account book, debts can be simplified.

When debts with friends can be simplified The site automatically detects when the debts inside an account book can be simplified.

Simplify the debts with your roomies You choose when you want the site to simplify all the debts. You can even choose the debts that you want to simplify.

Automatic closing of expenses sheet If the debts you want to simplify are induced by expenses sheets that are not locked yet, the site will lock them for you.

Tracing the debts with your roommates You have a real trace of your debts.

Contrary to other services, when debts are simplified, they are not "ingested" by the site. Instead, they are just "covered" by a smaller set of debts and kept in history.

Once all the debts of a simplification have been checked, all the covered debts are also checked.
