Share an account book with your roommates

What is an account book?

Accounts books for roomies

An account book gathers expenses sheets and debts of a group of people.

It allows to manage different expenses sheets involving different sets of people.

The debts of an account book may be combined so you get the most reduced set of transactions. See debts.

How it works?

Login First, you need to sign in. But no need to give your email and a password. Rather, you use a third-party site you trust and that identifies you with whooweswho.net. No worries, whooweswho.net will never have access to your password.

Creating a new expenses sheet Then you create an expenses sheet.

Creating a new account book Create a new account book if necessary.

Enter people involved in the sheet. Defining the participants of the account book

If it's the first time you enter one person, you can invite her/him to join the account book by providing an email. The person will then be able to edit the expenses sheet you created and also to create new expenses sheet in the account book.

If you have a google or yahoo mail account, you can even access your address book (no worries, still no password communicated to whooweswho.net).

Inviting participants to an account book If you didn't provide emails, you can still invite people later to join the account book, from the Settings.

After, it works as a single expenses sheet: everybody fill the sheet and the "who owes whom" is computed.

Choosing the currency of an expenses sheet It is possible to create expenses sheets with different currencies.

The need to have different currencies in a same group of people is rare, but it is not necessarily about money. Imagine you want to count hours of work...

Specifying the period of an expenses sheet You can specify a period of time for an expenses sheet.

That way people have to provide a date for each expense. That prevents them to enter expenses that are out of the period and so in the wrong sheet.

You can store unrelated expenses sheet in a tote: your personal account book. Personal account book of shared expenses

When creating a new expenses sheet, you can choose to store it in a shared account book (e.g the one for your roommates) or in your personal account book.

The personal account book is for events like trip with friends.

Sharing a personal account book You cannot invite people to join your personal account book. Instead, you can share each expenses sheet one by one, by sending a link to your friends. They won't have to sign in to access the sheet.

Exporting an account book to Excel or CSV You can export an account book to Excel or whatever spreasheet.

Statistics of an account book

This allows you to do whatever statistics you want.

You can keep your exported spreadsheet automatically synchronized with the online account book (e.g by using a web query in Excel).

All the debts in the account book can be combined to get the minimal set of transations to settle accounts.
